Economics BA
Middlebury's economics majors take six core courses organized in three two-semester blocks: introductory micro and macro, a quantitative sequence in statistics and regression analysis, and micro and macro theory. Then come at least four electives, two of which must be senior seminars. The senior research seminar has students carry out an independent research project, and that project is how departmental honors are earned. The department also serves interdisciplinary programs such as Environmental Studies, International Studies and International Politics and Economics, and runs an Experimental Economics Lab where faculty and students test theory with controlled experiments.

Economics BA and Quantitative Economics BS
UVM gives you two routes to an economics degree. The BA is a liberal arts path that pairs economics with a minor and leaves room for electives, suited to law, policy or business. The BS in Quantitative Economics is a STEM-designated track with more math and science, a dedicated econometrics sequence and a capstone advanced quantitative course, meant for graduate study or data-intensive careers. Most economics majors complete an internship or study abroad. Strong students can pursue an independent research capstone, often through the College Honors Program or Honors College.

Economics Major
Saint Michael's ends the economics major with a two-semester research thesis on a question you develop yourself. The first semester is spent researching and analyzing, and the second is an independent study that culminates in presenting your findings. Before that, majors learn how models, markets and systems create economic conditions, then apply them to topics such as environmentalism, healthcare and political science. Courses include Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics and electives such as Family and Gender in the Economy. The college says the thesis experience can lead to graduate school or employment.

Each program gets the same comparison score it earns in our national economics model, calculated against the nationwide group that meets the numeric and directory criteria. We then order Vermont’s eligible programs by that score within each degree level. We feature up to 10 programs, taking the next highest-ranked program from each degree-level list in turn. Scores are compared only within the same degree level. Bachelor’s lists weigh graduation rate (20%), published tuition (20%), graduate earnings (20%), program reputation (25%), and degrees awarded (15%). How these scores work.
