Price tracks quality less than you might expect. Florida has the top comparison score of the ten, 89.4, and the highest graduation rate, 91%, yet its in-state price sits only $1,751 above Western Carolina’s.
Where You Live Decides What You Pay
Residency changes the price at nine of these ten schools. The out-of-state premium runs from $4,000 at Western Carolina to $22,278 at Florida, where the published out-of-state figure is $28,659. BYU-Idaho is the exception at $4,800 for everyone, so a nonresident pays the in-state price there.
After BYU-Idaho at $4,800 and Western Carolina at $8,630, the lowest out-of-state figures are $17,324 at Florida Atlantic, $17,725 at Florida A&M, $17,734 at Georgia Southern and $17,736 at Kennesaw State. Western Carolina’s published number looks low next to NC Promise, which sets out-of-state tuition at $3,500 a semester, so a nonresident should expect to pay more than $8,630.

How Much In-State Tuition Varies Across These Programs
In-state, the whole list sits within $1,751, from $4,630 at Western Carolina to $6,381 at Florida. The three lowest, Western Carolina, BYU-Idaho and Florida Atlantic, are within $249 of each other. The five highest run from $5,808 at Kennesaw State to $6,381, a spread of $573.
At those distances, a few hundred dollars of tuition should not decide your school. Graduation rates, program fit and the cost of living near campus will matter more.
Western Carolina’s low number comes from NC Promise, which cut in-state undergraduate tuition to $500 per fall and spring semester. Tuition makes up $1,000 of the $4,630 and the rest is required fees, so compare the full cost of attendance, housing included, before you rank it first.
| School | In-State Tuition and Fees | Out-of-State Tuition and Fees | Graduation Rate |

What the Published Price Includes and Leaves Out
The figures here are the 2024-25 annual tuition and required fees each school reported for full-time undergraduates. They are schoolwide numbers before any grant or scholarship, so they are not your bill, and housing, food, books and travel sit outside them.
Degree length differs too. Georgia Southern’s BS is 124 credit hours, while Florida A&M, West Florida, Florida Gulf Coast and Kennesaw State list 120. Florida A&M’s BA adds 12 semester hours of a foreign language, and Florida Gulf Coast asks every student to satisfy a summer course enrollment requirement. Each extra credit hour or required summer course adds to the total.
Course timing can add a term as well. Kennesaw State requires an application, the Advanced Laboratory course and one course from each of four areas before you can register for the senior capstone, so plan those terms early.
Ways to Cut the Cost of a Psychology Bachelor’s
Six of the ten programs are at Florida public universities, and Florida rewards a state college start. The State University System describes an established “2+2” process that moves Associate in Arts graduates into upper-division programs at state universities. Take the introductory psychology, human development and statistics courses your target school lists as prerequisites so the credits count toward the major.
West Florida teaches its BA fully online and accepts up to 90 of the 120 credit hours from a regionally accredited institution, which can bring a community college start or older coursework into the degree. Kennesaw State offers Double Owl Pathways, which lets undergraduates earn an undergraduate and a graduate degree at lower cost and in less time than pursuing each separately.
Western Carolina is the other low-cost route. In-state undergraduates pay $500 in tuition per fall and spring semester through NC Promise. BYU-Idaho belongs on the shortlist for anyone outside its home state, because its published price is the same for in-state and out-of-state students.
How Price Compares With Graduation, Earnings and Program Size
Graduation rates rise with price on this list. Florida reports 91% and Central Florida 78% at in-state prices of $6,381 and $6,368, while Western Carolina reports 60% and BYU-Idaho 50% at $4,630 and $4,800. The extra cost for the highest rate is less than $1,800 a year.
Those are schoolwide six-year rates for first-time, full-time students, not rates for psychology majors. They still show how often a school’s students finish, and finishing on time is the cheapest way through any degree. One extra year of tuition and living costs would outweigh the in-state price gap between any two schools here.
College Scorecard median earnings for psychology graduates from these schools run from $39,472 at Florida A&M to $57,053 at Florida. They do not follow price closely: BYU-Idaho graduates report $42,283 and Florida Gulf Coast graduates $52,722.
Program size varies widely. Central Florida awarded 1,642 psychology bachelor’s degrees in 2023-24 and Florida 578, while Florida A&M awarded 144 and Western Carolina 150. A smaller department may run its upper-level courses less often, so ask how often they run.

Questions About Paying for a Psychology Degree
Which Psychology Program on This List Costs the Least In-State?
Western Carolina reported $4,630 in 2024-25 tuition and fees, the lowest on this list. Through NC Promise, in-state undergraduates pay $500 in tuition per fall and spring semester. Required fees, housing and meals come on top, so build your budget from the full cost of attendance.

Can Out-of-State Students Find a Low Price Here?
Yes, at two schools. BYU-Idaho reports the same $4,800 for in-state and out-of-state students. Western Carolina published $8,630 out-of-state, but NC Promise now charges nonresidents $3,500 a semester, so expect a higher figure. At the other eight schools the cheapest out-of-state price is $17,324, at Florida Atlantic.

Can You Earn a Psychology Degree Online at One of These Schools?
At several. West Florida offers its BA fully online, Central Florida lets you take its BS on campus or 100% online, the University of Florida runs an online BA through UF Online, and Georgia Southern lists an online option beside its campus locations. Kennesaw State’s catalog lists online and on-campus locations. Confirm which courses are offered online before you plan a schedule.
Is Starting at a Community College a Good Way to Save on a Psychology Degree?
It can be, if your credits transfer cleanly. Florida’s “2+2” process moves Associate in Arts graduates into upper-division programs at state universities, and six of these ten programs are in Florida. Take the general psychology, development and statistics courses your target school lists as prerequisites for the major.

Do Lower-Priced Psychology Programs Have Lower Graduation Rates?
Somewhat. The two highest schoolwide graduation rates belong to Florida at 91% and Central Florida at 78%, which are among the higher in-state prices, while BYU-Idaho reports 50% and Western Carolina 60%. The in-state price gap between the lowest and highest is under $2,000 a year. Every school here reports a schoolwide rate of at least 50%, because that is a requirement for the list.
How Much Do Psychology Graduates From These Schools Earn?
College Scorecard median earnings for psychology bachelor’s graduates run from $39,472 at Florida A&M to $57,053 at Florida. A median is the midpoint for a school’s graduates in this field, not a promise for any one student, and it does not follow tuition closely.
