The South Dakota Board of Examiners of Psychologists licenses psychologists in South Dakota. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology does not by itself qualify you to practice as a psychologist.

The South Dakota psychology board does not issue a separate master’s-level psychology credential. Master’s graduates who want to provide therapy usually pursue a counseling or marriage and family therapy license from a different board.
The South Dakota Board of Examiners of Psychologists issues no master’s-level license. SDCL 36-27A-2(2) exempts people who hold a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology and work in public or private nonprofit organizations under a licensed psychologist’s supervision; that exemption is not a credential. South Dakota enacted PSYPACT in 2024 (SDCL 36-27B-1, SL 2024 ch 161).
Requirements summarized from the board’s official pages. Confirm the current rules with the board before you choose a graduate program.
