No exceptions are made to the research methods sequence in Mizzou's psychological sciences majors: Research Methods in Psychology comes first, then Applied Statistical Methods in Psychology, then a capstone lab. The BS adds a required science track and more math and statistics, preparing students for science-oriented graduate programs like neuroscience, for medical school and for health professions. Research, readings and internship credit count up to 12 hours. The degree is earned on campus, with some classes online, and a separate online BA in psychology is offered with UMSL.

How We Rank Psychology Programs in Missouri

Each program gets the same comparison score it earns in our national psychology model, calculated against the nationwide group that meets the numeric and directory criteria. We then order Missouri’s eligible programs by that score within each degree level. We feature up to 10 programs, taking the next highest-ranked program from each degree-level list in turn. Scores are compared only within the same degree level. Bachelor’s lists weigh graduation rate (20%), published tuition (20%), graduate earnings (20%), program reputation (25%), and degrees awarded (15%). Doctoral lists weigh research activity (35%), program reputation (35%), and doctoral degrees awarded (30%). Associate lists weigh graduation rate (30%), published tuition (25%), program reputation (25%), and degrees awarded (20%). Methodology and data sources.

Degree
Doctoral degree in psychology from a program that is APA-, CPA-, or PCSAS-accredited, or designated by ASPPB/National Register, or meeting statutory program criteria in RSMo 337.025.3
Exam
Three exams: the EPPP, the Missouri Jurisprudence Examination (70 percent to pass), and an oral examination

The Missouri psychology board does not issue a separate master’s-level psychology credential. Master’s graduates who want to provide therapy usually pursue a counseling or marriage and family therapy license from a different board.

The State Committee of Psychologists does not currently issue a master’s-level psychology credential; the old master’s pathway applied only to people enrolled before August 28, 1990. Missouri is a PSYPACT member state.

Requirements summarized from the board’s official pages. Confirm the current rules with the board before you choose a graduate program.
