Psychology BS
West Chester wants you to take Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences as early as you can, since Research Methods and several later courses build on it. The required core also includes History and Systems of Psychology and Introduction to Psychology. You then pick from six areas, taking one course in each: biological bases, cognition and learning, lifespan development, multicultural and social bases, clinical, and an applied experience that can be a lab, a research course or a field placement. A senior seminar and six more psychology electives follow. Majors with a 3.25 psychology GPA can apply to the accelerated BS to MS in industrial/organizational psychology.

Psychology BA and BS
Entering the psychology major at Penn State takes a 2.00 GPA, a C minimum in Introductory Psychology and a statistics course, plus 3 credits each of GQ and GS general education. Then you pick a degree: the BA carries a world language and 47 credits in the major, including Psychology as a Science and Profession, Basic Research Methods, plus Senior Seminar, with 12 credits of 200-level courses drawn from three groups. The BS, at 74 to 77 major credits, requires more science and lets you take courses in math and computing, statistics, business or biology instead of a world language. Faculty research and an applied practicum are both encouraged.

Psychology BA and BS
To declare psychology at Villanova you need a C+ minimum in the introductory course, or an overall 3.00 GPA. The BA keeps the required courses to 31 credits, asking for Intro Statistics, Research Methods, a professional development seminar and a choice of Biopsychology or Cognitive Psychology. The BS is the scientific version at 53 credits: both Biopsychology and Cognitive Psychology, two general biology courses, an algorithms and data structures course and a math sequence. Both end in a capstone, PSY 5150 or 5250. Strong students can apply for a combined BA/MS or BS/MS, which asks for a 3.0 GPA and a 3.2 in the major.

Psychology BA
Ten course credits make up Bucknell's psychology major, and the sequence is deliberate: statistics and Introduction to Research Methods should be done by the end of sophomore year, because the discipline-specific research lab, called Advanced Methods, can only follow them. You also take four 200-level content courses with at least one each from Brain and Behavior, Cognition and Learning, and Person and the Group, plus two seminars above the 300 level, one of which meets the Culminating Experience. Students can start research in their second year in the Animal Behavior Laboratory or at Danville State Psychiatric Hospital, and fellowships support summer work with a faculty mentor.

Master of Science in Psychology, General Psychology
West Chester's General Psychology MS combines nine credits of research foundations, 15 credits of psychology core courses, and 12 elective credits. Students can take two elective courses outside psychology, making room for a related methodological or subject interest. The curriculum emphasizes statistics, experimental design, psychological measurement, and data analysis. A thesis is optional under the current curriculum. Applicants submit a substantial goals statement explaining their academic preparation and fit with the program.

Psychology PhD
Lehigh's psychology PhD is small and research-heavy, with work in cognitive, developmental and social psychology, and often at the overlap between them. You'll take three core courses, two in statistics and methodology, a professional development seminar, at least three graduate seminars and two electives, then complete a first-year project that can become your master's thesis. In year three you sit an exam built on a reading list in your area before starting the dissertation. Students usually receive a full tuition waiver plus a nine-month stipend, and PhD students can teach an undergraduate course after the MS. The GRE is optional, and counseling psychology applicants apply through the College of Education instead.

Psychology AA
Finish this 60 to 62 credit associate degree and the statewide Program-to-Program agreements put you into a Pennsylvania State System university with junior standing. Along the way you take General Psychology, a human development course, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology (or a social science elective) and a fourth-semester Research Methods course, with Elementary Statistics and a lab science behind them. Math starts at Intermediate Algebra, so students who need a refresher can fit it in. The curriculum is laid out over four full-time semesters, with room for literature, humanities and a general elective. Graduates who don't transfer right away can work in roles that value research literacy.

Psychology AA, Pre-Professional and Interpersonal Emphases
Bucks splits psychology into two emphases, and picking one matters if graduate school is the goal. The Pre-Professional emphasis is for transfer to a bachelor's and then a master's or doctorate, and it includes Introductory Psychological Statistics, Experimental Psychology, SPSS data entry and APA-style research reports. The Interpersonal emphasis adds Interpersonal Communications, Effective Speaking and Psychology of Personal Awareness, and suits students still deciding on a career. It can still lead to a psychology bachelor's if you choose Psychological Statistics and Experimental Psychology as your electives. Each program recommends a full-time semester sequence and points you to Transfer Services early.

Psychology AA
Reading's psychology transfer degree gives you real choice in four of its psychology courses: you select them from at least two categories, human development (lifespan, child or adolescent psychology) and individual processes (abnormal, counseling theories, social psychology or personality). A fifth, Research Methods, comes after you've passed General Psychology and Statistics with a C or better. The 60 credits are mapped semester by semester and are designed to prepare you to enter a bachelor's in psychology as a junior. Online sections exist for much of the sequence, and the whole program may be completed online.

Psychology AA
Students headed to a PA Trac college or university are told to see a transfer counselor early, because this 60 to 63 credit psychology AA follows the Pennsylvania Statewide Articulation Agreement in Psychology. The psychology sequence is Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology or a life span and developmental elective, Abnormal Psychology, Statistics for Behavioral and Social Sciences and one more psychology elective. Around it sit English composition, a biology course, history, philosophy, speech, humanities and social science electives. The program's stated outcomes include applying basic research skills and design principles to interpret behavior and presenting scientific arguments in writing and speech.

The State Board of Psychology licenses psychologists in Pennsylvania. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology does not by itself qualify you to practice as a psychologist.

The Pennsylvania psychology board does not issue a separate master’s-level psychology credential. Master’s graduates who want to provide therapy usually pursue a counseling or marriage and family therapy license from a different board.
The State Board of Psychology licenses only psychologists; it issues no master’s-level credential. Pennsylvania once licensed at the master’s level but the Practice Act was amended to require a doctoral degree, with earlier licensees grandfathered. Pennsylvania is a PSYPACT participating state.
